LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Mr Stewart Muir’s statement that my remarks were unsportsmanlike Is not correct. My -statement re liia application for regrading is based upon facts. The application was made through the Hamilton Club; they cannot deny it, and 'the inference which I have drawn is the natural one. When this application was made by 'the Hamilton Club, there were about 30 names to bo registered is players for a junior team. Surely this shows no lack of -candidates for • team requiring only thirteen players. The candid expression of Mr Muir of his opinion re Hogan’s ability, is after ill, only his opinion. The statement re his many difficulties do not speak ■ery well for his -club or such person’s as “Follower.” I-t Is not my intuition to discourage anyone who has 'he Interests of League football at heart, but when -statements appear •riticising tli) personnel -of the rep•osentatlve team and the selection it is only reasonable that I should wish to '•e-cord that there is the other viewpoint. Regarding "Follower,” his statement, “players of the calibre of Ellaby and Sullivan;" ho need not worry. If they were half as good they would be selected I feel sure. It is somewhat remarkable that in all the accounts of the match -at Hlkurangi, the players around which the discussion "rages," were all mentioned as showing some ability. This, of course, is only another opinion, but it just so happens

to coincide with mine, showing I am not so one-eyed as "Follower” would have readers to believe. Some of the young players mentioned by “Follower” were not available on account of injuries. As It happens the “R- Tittleton" whom "Follower” speaks of as being a promising young player and W. Tittle ton are one and the -same man and unfortunately he will not be available for any more football tills season. "Follower" again makes a statement -which is not correct; to my knowledge the selector did see Hamilton play on two occasions, Hamilton v, Tauplri at Tauplri, and Hamilton y. Ngaruawahia at Ngnruawaliia. It is j not my intention to continue the dis- j mission any further as it can serve no i useful purpose-—1 am. etc., ] LEAGUE SUPPORTER. - j Tauplri, June 29,J193jL j
