1000-MILE MOTOR RACE.

In the 1000-mile motor race at Brooldands, a master butcher named Keeson, was killed by his car skidding and overturning. Sir Malcolm Campbell had a narrow escape. Ills car skidded and the tyre ignited. The Australian, Miss Joan Richmond, at. the same spot as Reason's fatality, skidded when doing 80 miles an hour and the car swung round thrice up on the embankment, but. the driver brilliantly recovered and continued unperturbed. She celebrated her escape by a dazzling burst of speed, regaining second position behind Riley, her team mate, after lit laps. Later. The Australian. Miss Joan Richmond, and her driving partner, Miss Windsor, ended the first half of the 1000-miles international motor-ear rare at Brooklands in fourth plaeo. This is the first time women have driven in such a race. 1-larJ Home and Tim Birking did a solid *lO2 miles per hour.
