THE OTTAWA CONFERENCE
EMPIRE PROBLEMS. PRICE LEVELS AND CURRENCY. COMMITTEE SUGGESTED. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. LONDON, June 1. In the House of Commons Mr W. Craven-Ellis (Conservative —Southampton) asked if the Chancellor of the Exchequer would consent to create a committee to consider a scheme dealing with price levels, currency and banking for discussion at the Ottawa Conference on the lines of New Zealand’s intentions. The Secretary to the Treasury, Major W. E. Elliott, replied that the matter was under constant review by the Chancellor, who was not disposed to accept the member's suggestion. Mr Craven-Ellis: Has the Government not considered a monetary policy to submit at Ottawa? Major Elliott: It is quite wrong to assume that.
