A COUNTRY HOLIDAY.
CHILDREN OF THE NEEDY. WOMEN’S INSTITUTES’ SCHEME. CO-OPERATION WITH TOWNS. A decision to co-operate with welfare and other «uch social organisations in giving town children whose parents were in poor circumstances a holiday In the -country was made at ■the bi-annual conference of the Waikato Federation of Women’s Institutes in Hamilton to-day. A remit to the effect that the institutes should get into touch with these organisations in adjacent towns and arrange for children from indigent families to be given a holiday during school vacations at the homes of members was brought forward, and enthusiastically received. The president, Mrs W. J. Trownson considered this -to be an excellent idea. The -children of to-day were ■the citizens of the future, she said, and it was up to those who could to do all in their power for those children who were affected by the finan•cial depression. Mrs A. Fow urged that the remit should be accepted. The children were the first care of the institutes, and ladies could well realise how much the town children enjoyed a holiday in the country. There were many, who were under-nourished, who would benefit from a holiday in the healthful surroundings of -the country. _ Then again, the adoption of the remit would be a friendly gesture from the 'Country to the towns.
The remit was unanimously adopted
