PORTABLE CORRUGATED IRON SILO.
SEE IT AT THE SHOW. The exhibit of the new patent portable silo to be seen in the Boots Section, on the stand of M. J. Hooper and Co., at this year’s Winter Show, is attracting considerable attention. Mr W. Cecil England, of Howick, who is a practical farmer, both designed and manufactures this silo, which claims many advantages. Built of corrugated iron in easily adjustable sections, tho silo, which is economical, light and portable, embodies a principle which lias been lacking in similar constructions in the past. It tapers from top to bottom, the object being to provide for the shrinkage which normally occurs as the ensilage matures and settles. it is claimed that the sloping sides prevent the presence of air between the sides of the silo and the ensilage as the result of shrinkage. The shaped sheets of iron are bolted in position, tho section representing the door being left until the silo is filled. About eight inches at the top is Hanged outward, a provision which imparts additional strength and also ensured that the topmost layers of ensilage will sink without obstruction as shrinkage takes place. Flexible wire bands with adjustable clips, placed at intervals up the silo, give added stability. Ordinary concrete blocks are used for weighting the ensilage, but Ihese are surmounted by a coiie-sliaped tarpaulin cover on a wooden frame, lo shed all water. Tim Farmers’ Trading Company, Auckland, and branches, arc the agents for this Portable Corrugated Iron Silo.
