Miss Tolhurst had another splendid victory in windy weather, in which she controlled the ball better than Miss Vanwie, who was weak in putting and mlgsed some by only a yard, once throwing the ball from the green with a gesture of disgust. Miss Tolhurst took the lead at the third, then made a brilliant recovery from the rough, to halve the fourth, where Miss Tolhurst, in putting, hit her opponent’s ball. Miss Vanwie became annoyed, playing Unto the beach grass at the seventh, where she missed a two-foot putt, but she squared finely at the eighth and took the lead at the ninth, Miss Tolhurst topping her second. The gallery cheered the Australian on squaring the tenth. Miss Vanwie, holing an eight-footer for a birdie, was three ahead again at the.twelfth, but missed the tee shot at the 13th, Miss Tolhurst squaring, but dropped the fourteenth, playing badly through the green. However, Miss Tolhurst made a slashing fight, and holed a nine-foot putt, to win the short seventeenth. Miss Vanwie recovered surprisingly from the sandhills, leaving the Australian an eight-foot putt to ha'lve the eighteenth, Both were- off the green at the nineteenth, over a deep bank, which the American three times failed to run. She look six to reach the green. Miss Tolhurst exploded her shot over the green, and won the par four hole in six, against eight. She will next meet the Hampshire cx-champion, hard-hitting Mrs Clark.
