UNEMPLOYED RELIEF.
THE ISSUE OF RATIONS. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. 'By Telegraph.— Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Interviewed regarding the issue of rations, the Minister of Employment, the Right Hon. J. 0. Coates, said some misunderstanding seemed to exist as to the extent to which this form of assistance would be given, and to whom it could be given. “It Is not proposed,’’ said the Minister, “that the Unemployment Board shall deal with all those who in the past have obtained assistance from hospital hoards, but relief will be confined to those employed by the Unemployed Board as relief workers. The hospital boards will, as in the past continue to care for the needs of oldage pensioners and dependants of indigent single men. “The Unemployment Board's funds are by no means unlimited,” said the Minister, "but to the full extent that the funds will allow ration relief will be given in those cases which upon consideration are found to be specially deserving.”
