MINISTER'S CIRCULAR. SENSATION CAUSED. (Special Reporter.) AUCKLAND, Thursday. A mild sensation was caused at the Auckland Provincial Conference of the Farmers’ Union last evening, when a notification was received from the Minister of Agriculture regarding relief workers, of which it was reported the ofllcer-in-charge of the Auckland Labour Bureau had no knowledge. The president (Mr A. A. Ross) said a circular had been received from Hon. C. E. Macmillan, Minister of Agriculture, stating that his department had made arrangements with the Unemployment Board that all farmers maTiTng application for labour for destroying noxious weeds were to be granted relief workers free of wages costs. He. urged all farmers to avail themselves of the arrangement. Mr F. Taylor (Kaukapakapa) said he had received a letter from Mr W, Slaughter in reply to a request to him to send relief workers. Mr Slaughter “had said he had no official knowledge of the Minister’s circular. Mr Taylor said, ho had been told the circular had been withdrawn and fresh instructions would be issued. • One of ihe delegates asked if such action was the Government’s idea of economy. The correspondence was received.
