CIVIL SERVANTS’ POLICY.
APPROVED BY FARMERS. CONFERENCE SUGGESTED. (Special Reporter.) AUCKLAND, Wednesday. Approval of a remit urging the appointment of a committee to confei with Messrs J. H. MoKenzie and W. F, Kent-Johnston, of the Post and Telegraph Association, to present a united front against the Government’s policy of deflation was given by the Auckland Provincial Conference of the Farmers’ Union to-day. The remit pointed out that the Auckland Public Servants’ policy corresponded with the Farmers’ Union policy for the rectification of the financial situation and that the resolu--7 lion passed at the Town Hall meeting on the night of the Auckland riot opposing tho Niemeyer Plan should be. supported, Mr A. Giles (Hokianga), said the public servants had been working on similar lines to tho union up to a point. The union should try and cooperate with the civil servants as much as possible. Mr 11. M. Rushworth, M.P., said many organisations and men were interested in the financial policy. All were advancing schemes designed to cure present-day evils. Messrs McKenzie and Kent-Johnston w f ere the prime movers in the movements for the Post and Telegraph Association. He suggested that they should get into touch with the representatives of th association. Seconding, Mr W. Boyd said he was intense-y impressed . with arguments brought forward by the association. However, the Government had decided to suppress activities in connection with the public service. It was possible the remit might prejudice or injure the public servants. Mr Rushworth replied that the union nould deal direct with members of the Post and Telegraph Association as such and not with civil servants.
