Father O’Leary, the noted seismologist, he estimates that an earthquake took place less than 3000 miles to the north-west of Sydney, most probably in the Sea of Celebes. PERTH, May 17. An upheaval occurred on the floor of the Indian Ocean, less than 400 miles from Perth, at 9.18 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Government Astronomer, Mr Curlewis. The maximum shocks, which continued for fourteen minutes, caused 'the boom to swing repeatedly for about seven Indies.
