AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS.

t TO TOUR AMERICA. Mr W. Ives, a Sydney cricketer, is passing through Auckland by the Aorangi on his way to complete the preliminary arrangements for a tour of Canada and the United States by a party of Australian cricketers. The team will pass through Auckland by the Niagara on May 30. Mr Ives said that arrangements had been made for the team to play in jll "■ the important centres of Canada and matches would also be played at Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Buffalo and Detroit, while it was practically certain that a visit would be paid to Hollywood. About 15 matches would be played, most of them twoday fixtures. In addition to Don Bradman, the team would include V. Y. Richardson, vice-captain of the last Australian team to England, A. A. Mailey, the famous bowler, who had arranged the tour, A. F. Kippax and S. McCabe. Among the lesser-known players was Fleet--wood-Smith, a left-hand googly bowler, .■of whom great things were expected in Australia. Australia V. England. ■Mr Ives, referring to next season’s test match prospects said Unit, judging by the cricketing strength of England it appeared that the matches would n provide a great cricketing battle. It seemed that England would field a team capable of making runs right down to No. 11 in the batting order. Although Bradman would presumably still be a force himself, the Australian selectors might have to run the risk of fielding a side with a pronounced “ tail ” to permit the inclusion of reasonable bowling strength. Apart from Fleetwood-Smith and O'Riley, another spin bowler, a new player who might gain test honours was Nash, a fast bowler from Tasmania. According to report he was definitely a fast bowler in the making.
