OPTIMISTS’ CLUB.

NEW YEAR COMMENCED. POSITION IN THE COMMUNITY. Not by any means the least important of the several organisations attached to the Hamilton Y.M.C.A. is the Optimists' Club, which has on a number of occasions rendered useful service for various causes. During the past year the members have been particularly active, and at the annual meeting the president, Mr E. Thorpe, congratulated the club on the success of Its operations. In reviewing the activities he referred to the clothes drive which was conducted in conjunction with the Welfare League, and said that the club would probably be called upon again within the next few months to assist in a similar effort.

A report on the past year was given oy the secretary, Mr C. J. Alexander, who detailed the proceedings at the weekly meetings. The following officers were appointed:—President, Mr E. Thorpe; vice-president, Mr J. Yendell; padre, Rev. 11. G. Gilbert; secretary, Mr C. J. Alexander; treasurer, Mr A. Enright; pianist, Mr G. Williams; song leader, Mr A. Enright; programme secretary, Mr G. L. Cato.

The president outlined the. programme for the new year, and. suggested that each member hold himself responsible for one night’s entertainment, which could take the form of a lecture, games, concert, or something of a similar nature. Mention was made of the valuable service rendered to the club by Mr C. L. Cato, also Misses L. Street and D. Fear, who provided the teas at each meeting. A vote of thanks was carried by acclamation.
