TE AWAMUTU BOROUGH
MEETING OF COUNCIL. GENERAL BUSINESS. The fortnightly meeting of the Te Awamutu Borough Council was held last evening, when the Mayor, Mr C. G. Downes presided and there were also present Crs G. Gifford, F. J. Gilbert, ll.' G. Rainey, W. J. North, L. G. Armstrong, A. Brown, and G. A. Empson. The Town Clerk, Hamilton, inquired if Ihe Council would agree to the allocalion of. heavy license fees that have been in force for the last three years. —The allocation was accepted without discussion. Mr F. G. Harwood reported that he had inspected the intake and reservoir during the recent rains and found them blocked on several occasions, but there was an abundance of water and the reservoir was overflowing on all occasions. The pipe line is also In good order. .Misses L. R. and G. H. Lawry confirmed the arrangement entered Into with the borough foreman concerning the frontage of their property, interfered with by the present reconstruction of the street, and advised that no further alterations can bo made without their consent. It was decided to reply that all requests will be carefully considere-d, but nothing definite will be agreed on for the future. The matter is to be left in the hands of the works committee and foreman with power to act. The Commissioner of Transport asked the Council to co-operate with the authorities in charge of transport and asked for the names of the traffic officers, so that they could be instructed in their extra duties especially in the case of licensing for such occasions as race days, etc. —Agreed to. Cr. Empson suggested that the method of eradicating ragwort suggested by a Putaruru farmer be tried out on the waterworks reserve. —Referred to the foreman. Domain Board. Sitting as the Domain Board, the annual report and balance sheet for the year ended March 31, 1932, was read. It showed parks had been well maintained, The credit balance was shown at £56. Gr. Armstrong congratulated the Board on Hie successful working of the past year. Prices were received for the -floodlighting of Albert Park. The Mayor said Ibis was as a result of a recent deputation received from the Waipa Rugby Union. He added that the Board should help the Union if it was possible. It was decided to offer to contribute £7 10s to the Rugby Union provided the Union had the lights erected am maintained, during the season and also paid for all light used. The council would not accept further responsibility after its donation.
