RESERVE FOR NAVY
VALUE OF VOLUNTEERS. “NECESSITY FOR NEW ZEALAND.” The necessity of having a Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve in New Zealand was stressed by Commodore F. Burges Watson, the new Commodore of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, at a luncheon given in his honour at Wellington. "You support a division of Ihc Royal Navy,” he said, “and you hack it with a xaval Reserve and with a most lusty infant the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.’ 1 trust that the Volunteer Reserve will always he encouraged among vou, and that as time goes on' it will become stronger and stronger. The Commodore pointed out that, as New Zealand did not have the population of Ilshmnen to call upon as reserves in tunes of trouble, as was the case in England, every encouragement should he given to (lie Volunteer Reserve, Which in this country he considered an absolute necessity.
