HADEN CLARKE’S DEATH
MRS MILLER’S STATEMENT. NOT A LOVE TRIANGLE. SIGNIFICANT NEW CLUES. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright. MIAMI, May 1. “it was not a love triangle. I was alone In the world, not having a place to go or anything to eat. I loved Haden Clarke,” said Mrs Keith Miller, in an Interview when speaking of the tragio death of the American pilot. “ Capt. Lancaster and I were merely pals. We were never in love,” continued Mrs Miller. “After he left to investigate a proposition for a LatinAmerican air line, Clarke and I discovered our mutual love. We were conscience-stricken and surprised, and we wrote to Captain Lancaster that we intended to marry.” The police claim that Clarke and Mrs Miller contemplated marriage, and that Lancaster -was painfully surprised when he returned from St. Louis. That, they say, was the first he heard of this news. On the other hand, Mrs Miller told the attorney that she and Lancaster were poverty-stricken owing to the depression, and were unable to pay even light and water bills. Clarke’s mother is now not convinced that he committed suicide. 1 I will believe it if the authorities conour in that theory,” she says, “ hut tt is incomprehensible. Haden was always averse to self-killing, and as a small boy would not play with toy pistols. If he loved Mrs Millar I did not know of it. Haden was always Lancaster’s friend, and any quarrel between them must have occurred in the past fortnight,” added Mrs Clarke. Significant new clues have been found, the most important being a mysterious bruise on Clarke’s shoulder. There are also other numerous bruises on the body, pointing to a struggle.
Experts are not convinced that letters addressed to Mrs Miller and Lancaster were written by the dead man. Other letters which Clarke had previously written are being sent from New York for comparison.
