TE AROHA BOROUGH.

MEETING OF COUNCIL. At the April meeting of the Te Arohaj Borough Council on Wednesday thosa present were the Mayor (Mr R. Coul* ter), and Crs. V. 'Hamilton, W. E« Smith, B. Hobson, D. McMahon, G« Frith and W. C. Kennedy. The manager of the abattoir report ted that 70 large caLtle, 291 sheep,, 31 lambs and 20 pigs had been slaughtered during the month, the fees totalling £lO5 Tss 7d. The secretary of the Municipal Band; reported a credit balance in the bank of £G-i 17s Bd. During the past term the band had played 27 programmes, the attendance of members at prac-< liecs and engagements being satis* factory. The Unemployment Relief Com* mittce's application for the use.of thd council's outbuildings for storage oU goods and a reserve for stock donated was granted. Exemption of Banks. A circular letter was received frornl the Wliakatane Borough Council in re* gat’d to banks being omitted from the provisions of the National Expenditure Adjustment Bill in the reduction ofi interest charges, and asking the council’s support for the inclusion of tha banks operating in the Dominion. Jt was decided to support the proposal. The Main Highways Board asked for particulars of work done on the borough portion of the IlamiltmPaeroa main highway and subsidy due on the expenditure. The clerk stated that the cost of the work for repairing road shoulders with broken stone and bitumen was £232 10s, on which the subsidy would be £174 2s fid. A circular letter was read relative to vacancies for boys at Flock Houses* Received. Finances. The clerk reported cash In bank £991 11s lOd. Accounts amounting to £2170 is Del were passed for payment. Cr. Cits Walsh who is away from Ihe district, was granted leave of absence. Several letters from property-own-ers stating their inability to pay their rales at present were referred to tha legal and hnauco committee.
