THE WOOL SALES. DEMAND IN SYDNSY. Unitea Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. SYDNEY, April 28. At the Sydney wool sales to-day 10.573 bales were offered and 9343 were sold, also 1062 bales were sold privately. The market ruled firm at the previous day’s level of values. There was good competition between Yorkshire, Japan, and the Continent. Greasy Merino sold to 14d. ADDINGTON MARKET. Entries at the Addington market were smaller than usual, particularly in the fat cattle and store sheep sections. Forward store lambs, s good young ewes and prime cattle sold better, but values in other sections were from par to easier. Store Lambs.—There was a steady sale for rape lambs and best ewe lambs. Good rape lambs made from 10s 6d to 12s Sd, medium rape 7s 6d to 10s, ordinary mixed sex 4s to 6s 6d, extra good ewe lambs, to 11s 6d, good ewe lambs 9s to 10s.
Store Sheep.—There was a much smaller entry, 'comprising for the most part old sorts of ewes. These sold irregularly, with young ewes slightly better. Forward wethers were in demand. Medium four and six-tooth crossbred ewes made to 14s, good sound-mouth crossbred to 10s, plain 4-tooth halfbred to 10s, ordinary C 4 and 8-tooth halfbred 7s Gd to 9s, good sound-mouth halfbred to 10s, ordinary 6s to Bs, aged 3s to 4s, Merino Is to 3s 9d, good 2-tooth crossbred wethers 11s to 13s 7d, ordinary 4 and 6tooth 8s 6d to 10s 2d, inferior 5s to 7s, Merino 2s 3d to ss. Fat Lambs. —A total of 3200 head was penned and "met with a steady sale. Extra prime lambs made to 21s Id, prime 18s--to 19s 6d, medium 13s 6d to 17s 6d, light 10s to 13s. Fat Sheep.—There was an entry of nearly 5000 head. The market was dull and there was an all-round easing of Is a head. Exporters operated only to a small extent. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 20s Id, prime heavy 15s to l-7s, prime mediumweight 13s to 14s 6d, ordinary 11s 6d to 12s 6d, light wethers 10s to 11s, extra prime heavy ewes to 16s 4d, prime heavy 10s Gd to 12s 6d, medium weight prime 8s to 10s, ordinary 6s Gd to 7s Gd, light 4s to 6s. Fat Cattle.—There was a very small entry of 248 head, compared with 415 last w-eek. Sixty prime head were forward from the North Island. They averaged £lO 10s. On account of the short entry values improved for prime cattle by 20s a head. Best prime beef made to 27s Gd per 1001 b, good 21s to 245, medium 17s to 21s, inferior 13s to 16s, rough to 10s. Extra prime heavy steers to £l2 12s Gd, prime heavy,£B 10s to £lO las, prime medium weight £6 5s to £B, ordinary quality £4 5s to £6, light to £4, extra prime' heifers to £8 17s Gd, prime £6 to £7 ss, medium £3 10s to £5 15s, light to £3 ss, extra prime cows to £8 12s 6d, prime £5 to £6 15s, medium £3 5s to £4 15s, light and aged '£2 to £3. Fat Pigs.—There was a medium entry of fat pigs, which met with a fair demand. Choppers made from £2 to £4 6s, baconers 40s to 45s 6d, heavy 47s Gd to 55s Gd, extra heavy 57s 6d to 60s 6d; average price per lb, 34d to 4id; porkers 30s to 345, heavy 35s Gd to 38s 6d; average price per lb 5d to 6d.
KING COUNTRY SALES. ThT’New Zealand Loan and Mercantile, Te Kuiti, report having held sales at Otorohanga and Pio Pio, when a medium yarding of stock was offered and sold at prices satisfactory to the vendors. We quote: Fat cows, £2 Us to £2 15s; wethers, 38s to £2 Gs; killable cows, 30s to 355; store cows, £1 to £1 4s; boner cows, 10s to 18s; Jersey heifer calves, 18s to 295; Hereford mixed sex calves, 10s; Bulls, £1 to £2 is; dairy heifers (best), £4 5s lo £6 15s; best dairy cows, £4 5s to £G 15s; fat lambs, 10s Gd to 11s lOd; store lambs, 6s to Gs lOd; pigs, slips 10s, weaners 6s.
