ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL

PLAY IN SOUTH AUCKLAND

SEASON OPENS TO-MORROW. KEEN CONTESTS EXPECTED. The 1932 Association football season will open locally to-morrow when an attractive series of games are set down for decision. At Seddon Park, Renown, runners' up in last year’s competition, will meet the revived Hamilton United team. From reports the Renown team will not differ much from last years’ combination, so they are certain to be formidable opponents. On the other hand the United team with such experienced players in their ranks as Edmondson, Crabb, Phillips and Mills, the South Auckland centre half, will be capable of extending any team. It would appear that an interesting opening encounter will reward the enthusiasts who are at local headquarters to-morrow. Hamilton Wanderers will journey to Huntly to meet Thistle. Both teams are considerably strengthened since last season, Wanderers being particularly strong in ,the forward line. The composition of the Thistle eleven is uncertain at present, but if reports are correct, they are to have the services of the Bate Brothers, two clever forwards, who will give opposing fullbacks anxious moments. This looks like being a very open game. A more attractive fixture for the Huntly patrons could not be staged. Wanderers. Team to play Huntly Thistle, at Huntly: Raven, Caldwell, King, Gardiner, Smith, Bullock, Black, Williamson, Rogers, Cavaye, Schon'au. Reserves to travel: Kennedy, Yates. Depart Para Rubber Co.’s corner at i. 30 p.m. promptlyl. MORRINSVILLE CLUB. The newly-formed Morrinsville Club Wffß little unfortunate In losing its match against Matamata, 3—2. The scores had been level for the most of the game, hut near the end the Morrinsville goalkeeper failed to clear an easy shot and Matamata scored the winning goal. •Considering that it was the first match of the season for the Morrinevllle players and some players in the team had not played for several seasons, they gave quite a good exhibition.
