ANZAC COMMEMORATION.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —I was surprised and hurt, and I am sure that there were many others whose feelings suffered similarly, to see two men keep their hats on and their cigarettes burning during the whole of the service at Memorial Park on Monday. Even while prayers were being offered these men kept smoking and made no attempt to remove their hats. Such lack of respect for the departed, and, Indeed, the ministers of the church, was deplorable, particularly when there were so many present at the service for whom the day was one of sad memories. I can oniy hope that the men were foreigners and did not realise the true significance of the occasion, for I am sure that if they were New Zealanders they could not have remained as they did.—l am, etc., OLD SOLDIER.
