LIABILITY FOR PAYMENT. A DELICATE POINT. AUCKLAND, Thursday. At a' meeting of the Auckland Rugby League last night the application of T. Hail for permission to play for the Newton Club raised an Interesting point. Hall recently returned from England after two years’ ■ engagement with the St. Helens Club. Mr R. Dobie said this was the first case which had come up since the agreement between Australia, New Zealand and England that a club losing the services of a player under agreement to an overseas club should be paid £2OO compensation. The New Zealand Council had received communication on the subject from England, said Mr Dobie, who expressed the opinion that the Newton Club was liable for 'payment, seeing that Hall was to play again in New Zealand. The chairman, Mr G. Rhodes, -said it was a delicate point, and on his motion the application was referred to the New Zealand Council.
