RUAKURA FARM.
FEED FOR THE WINTER AMPLE SUPPLY ASSURED. STOCK IN FINE CONDITION.
Work in all branches is proceeding smoothly at Ruakura State Farm, and preparations are well advanced for the care of the stock over the winter months. In conversation with a Waikato Times representative yesterday the manager, Mr T. E. Rodda, said that the grass had come away well after the recent rains, and provided that there were not too many early frosts there should be an ample supply of green fodder for some time to come. Plenty of dry feed has been put aside for the winter, as well as a quantity of roots. There is not a great deal of activity on the farm at present apart from the ordinary routine work. Lately the men have carried out hay pressing and fall ploughing, together with topdressing for late autumn and early spring feed. Drains are also receiving a general overhaul. All the autumn crops are in, and winter requirements are completely filled In this direction. Particular attention is being given to the pedigree stock which is to be offered at the annual sale at the farm on August 10. In addition to a number of Berkshire and Large White pigs, some 50 young bulls, including Jerseys, Guernseys, Ayrshires, and Shorthorns, will come under the hammer. Jerseys predominate and a 'large number of those are by the well-known bull Holly Oak Beauty Knight. All the stock on the farm are in forward condition, including the 1000 breeding ewes which were purchased recently. The farm generally is looking well, and the prospects are that the production of last season will be well maintained next year.
