LEVY ON SAVINGS BANK ACCOUNTS

(To the Editor.) Sir, —“ Pick and Shovel ” does not appear to have read my last letter very carefully as he says I evidently think that those who are destitute should be permitted to 'starve. I distinctly said I thought "Nest Egg” (meaning the class lie represents), would not let “ Pick and Shovel ” starve. He further says I forget that the great major- j lty have never had a chance to provide for a rainy day; I also gave that in : my last letter and need not repeat it again. Nothing can alter the fact that the destiny of the majority lies in (heir own hands. There are of course some exceptions. I know from personal experience that the majority ■ spend their earnings as soon as received, and in some cases beforehand. As I have already said, 'there are exceptions; not every one that is poor should be branded as improvident, but there is a large majority who could save something in good times if only they would not live beyond their means. “ Pick and Shovel ” finishes up by becoming somewhat personal by saying “Nest Egg” and I (in effect), want the day to arrl/e when we can add to our hoards. Speaking for my- j self, I can assure “ Pick and Shovel ” j I have no hoard—l do not even have a banking account, hut have a back country farm on which we live without wanting the Government to tax other people. My hoard consists of. the stock on the farm. —I am, etc., j C. Y. DALLY, | Oparau, April 21. j
