WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

WHATAWHATA BRANCH. The first meeting of the Whatawhata Women’s Institute was a marked success. There was a very large gathering, visitors from the Te Pahu and Te Kowhai Institutes bringing the number to between TO and 80. Mrs Ilarsant, voluntary organiser, gave a very interesting address on the aims and objects of the movement. Mrs Fow ,of Gordonton, entertained the audience with elocutionary items; Miss Weatherly and Miss Hope, of Te Kowhai, gave much-appreciated plano-i-ite solos; and Mrs A. Livingstone and Mrs Alf Rowe gave charming sings. A competition on the " uses of Olive Oil ” caused much merriment. The sales table was quite a success. Afternoon tea was served in the supper-room, the hoste-sses being Mesdames Limmer, Carpenter, Borton, Drower, Wills and Sperry. Complimentary speeches were made by Mrs Harsant, voluntary organiser, Waikato Federation of Women’s Institutes, Mrs Trownsen, president Matangi Institute, Mrs Nicholson, president Te Kowhai Women’s Institute, and Mrs Hills, president of the Te Pahu Institute. The members of the Whatawhata Women’s Institute were congratulated upon their choice of officers—Mrs E. Soper, (president), Mrs C. Limmer (vice-president) and Mrs Alf Howe, (secretary and treasurer). The singing of God Save the King brought a most enjoyable afternoon to a close.

PIRONQIA BRANCH. There was a good attendance at a meeting of the Plrongia branch of the Women's Institute, Mrs Robson, president, presiding. The bring-and-buy function proved a great success. Mrs W.
