UNSEEMLY SCENES
Tlie scenes staged in tlie House ot Representatives on Thursday night and yesterday morning were not such as to* reflect credit upon those directly concerned, and arc calculated to bring Parliament into disrepute, there was a time when the Dominion’s National r.ounril Chamber hold a high place for Hu' decorum ami dignity with which ,1 transuded ils business and conducted its deludes. Thai time lias apparently passed, for some members do not scruple to comport themselves as rald.de and to use language which would put a savage to the blush. Such procedure is a disgrace to the perpetrators, a reproach oil their constituencies, and a reflection on Parliament, tt was irony that some of the objectionable scenes and language occurred whilst the question of legislators’ emoluments was under discussion tor tlie incidents showed that some of our members lack qualifications for what should be a high and honourable office and that their services as legislators and lawmakers would be dearly bought no matter at what figure their remuneration was fixed.
