WAR MEMENTO.
ON LIBRARY WALL. SURRENDER OF GERMAN FLEET. An interesting and historic memento of the Great War has been handed over by Mr W. J. Houlden, who is returning ‘to England on a visit, for presentation to the Waikato Museum when that proposed institution is an accomplished fact. It is a large framed card of the names of warships of the Royal Navy accompanied toy the American and French, representatives escorting in, centre formation the surrendered German fleet to the Firth of Forth. The fleet was afterwards 'taken to Seapa Flow, where the vessels were scuttled by their own crews. Mr Houlden was attached to the Royal Naval Air Servioe and was in charge of an observation balloon aboard the leading British man o’ war, the “Cardiff,” in which was Rear- ' Admiral Sinclair who, on account of the good work he had done at the battle of Jutland, was given the signal honour of meeting the German fleet on the morning of its surrender. Mr Houlden says it was a magnificent and never to be forgotten sight. The card has been hung on the wall of the public reading room ol the Hamilton Library meanwhile.
