FISHING AT RAGLAN.
HAMILTON ANGLCR6 BUCCEBSFUL. SOME GOOD CATCHES RECORDED. During the past two weeks conditions for Ashing at Raglan'have been excellent, and as a result' some good catches have been made In the harbour. The main wharf has been the popular meeting place - for anglers and although the number of llnny denizens of the deep landed has not been large, tlie size of the fish has more than compensated for the patience of the anglers. Several local fishermen were successful In hooking good specimens, schnapper and kahawal being the predominating oatohes. Numerous small fish, mainly schnapper, varying In size from a foot to eighteen inches, fell victims to parties using hand lines from boats out in j the harbour. Cox’s Bay'ls the most favoured spot, and catches of forty and fifty are not at all uncommon. Mr Llewellyn Jones and party from Hamilton, were particularly successful in this bay, while Messrs Collu and Clifford Coodwin, also of Hamilton, were among others who brought ashore good bags. Flounder are now plentiful in tlie harbour, and parties spearing and netting are being well rewarded for their efforts. January and February are usually reckoned to he the best months of the year so far as fishing at Raglan Is concerned, and there will doubtless be a large influx of anglers from all parts of the district during the next few weeks.
