MATAMATA NEWS.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. The January meeting of the Matamata Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday in St. Andrew’s Hall. Mrs C. Barry presided over a good attendance. Apologies were received from Mesdames Sohofleld, Taylor and Symons. The following now mombers were eleoted: Mesdames Kmuohanan and Hustle. ,

An Interesting • demonstration of paper weaving was given by Mrs Burloy." Mrs Stevens gave a humorous item, and Mrs Burloy entertained with a song. A paper causing much amusemont-" was lield, newspaper and pins 'being used. Mrs Barry was drossed in beach pyjamas, Mrs Barkman in Early Vlotorian dress, Mrs Hawes as a Bon-bon and Mrs Walker as a Nurse. Mesdames Bell and K. Buohanan, who dressed Mrs Walker, were, adjudged the winners by those present. Before afternoon tea was served slips of paper upon which-.were written parts of proverbs were distributed. Members whose slips 'completed a proverb were then partnered for afternoon tea.

The hostesses were Mesdames O’Hara, Loveridge, Casey and Sister Mac Allister. The singing of the National Anthem brought to a dose a very pleasant afternoon.

PERBONAL. Miss Merle Connolley, of Whakatanc, is the guest of Miss B. Bates. . Mrs E. C. Banks left on Wednesday for Wellington on a visit to her daughter, Mrs E. Dobson. Miss Elsie Hitchcock, who has spent the holidays with her parents, leaves on Monday for Wellington. Misses M. Russell and P. Davies, who have been the guests of Mrs P. Banks, have left for their homes in Wellington and Hamilton respectively.

Mrs S. Gunn and Miss C. Gunn are holidaying at Thames Coast. Mrs J. Matscy, of Burwood Road, is visiting Rotorua.. Mrs Woodroffe and hor two sons arc spending a holiday at Puru. Mrs A. Oates is visiting her sister at Portland, Wiiangarci. Mrs Warren and children are spending a few days in Auckland. Rev. and Mrs Hampton and children a’i* on holiday at Thames Coast. Mrs Sherson and children, of Auckland, who have been the guests of Mrs W. D. L. McDonald, left on Wcdn* si lay for their home. Rev. and Mrs Blakemore are spending a holiday at Taurangu. Mrs B. C. Taylor and daughter aro on holiday at Wailii Beifeh.

Miss Quincey and Miss D. Egan spfnl, last week-end al the Mount, Tnuranga. Miss Bennett, of Wales, England, is visiting her brother and sister-in-law, Mr anil Mrs B. Bennett. Tailiou. Miss W. Bales has returned from a holiday at Takapuna Beach. Miss G. Ileerdegen has returned I rnm a holiday at Ihe Mount, Tauranga.
