ANNIVERSARY TO FALSE SCENT.

The first day of the Foxton Racing Club’s meeting was held to-day in fine weather. There was a good attendance and the track was in excellent order.
Following were the concluding results :
ANNIVERSARY HANDICAP. Of £9O; 6 furlongs. 5 FALSE SCENT, W. Taylor’s (Broughton)- 1 1 ARMINUI, E. J. Alurtagh’s (L. G. Morris) 2 4 TENACRE, W. Kirkland’s (Voitre) 3 Also started: 2 • Paratoo, 8.12; 3 Arajean, 7,12; 1 Golden Shadow, 7.0. Won by a head with half a head between second and third. Time, 1.14.
CARNARVON HACK HANDIGIAP. Of £9O; 1 mile. 1 CHIEF SAVAGE, A. E.j Neale’s (B. H. Alorris) 1 3 THRASHER (K. Voitre) 2 4 IN VAIN, Airs B. W. Trolove’s (Reed) 3 Also started: 2 Air Laddie, 9.0; 6 Fallow, 5 Umpire, 7.0. Won by. two lengths with a neck between secand and third. Time, 1.49 2-5.
HERRINGTON HANDICAP. Of £9O; 7 fur. 1 HABIT, H. McManaway’s (L. G.. Alorris) 1 2 ACORA, A. T. Gattrell’s (B. H. Alorris) 2 3 TENACRE, W. Kirkland’s (K. Voitre) .. v • 3 Also started:'s Briar Root, 8.7; 4 Arlkira, 8.2; 6 Afonsogne, 7.11. Won by half a length with two lengths between seoond and third. Time 1.17 3-5. The Total Isator. The totallsator handled £5244 for the day, against £8134 on the first day'last year, a decrease of £2890. THE WELLINGTON MEETING. RIPPLING WATERS & THE STAKES. LOCAL FILLY NOT FOR TRENTIIAAI. The name of Rippling Waters appears in the field posted for the Stakes at the coming-meeting of the Wellington Club, but the Hamilton owned two-year-old will not be at Trentham next week. The Chief Ruler—Boynette filly, who was injured just* prior to the Spring meeting at Trentham, has only recently rejoined J. F. Tulchen’s local stable. She is being worked on the roads but it will be some time yet before Rippling Waters is ready for racing.
THE MATAMATA CLUB.
NOAIINATIONS 5 P.AI. FRIDAY.
The annual totalisator meeting of the Matamata Racing Club will be held on Saturday, February 6. Hacks are well catered for on the programme while two open events for flat gallopers are also provided. Nominations for all events will close with the secretary (Mr B. G. Taylor), P.O. box 22, telephone 142, Matamata, or Messrs Blomfleld and Company, Auckland, on Friday, January 15,‘at 5 p.m.
