OVER-BORROWED.

HOSPITAL 'BOARD'S "TAG,.” NECESSARY TO CARRY ON. “ACT SHOULD BE AMENDED.” Members of the Waikato Hospital Board received something of a shock to-day when the secretary (Mr E. G. Johnson) advised them that the balance sheet bad been tagged, tho Audil Department pointing out that the. hoard had exceeded its borrowing powers under Section 62 of the Act. 'Phe chairman (Mr J. J. Ryburn) said lie had understood that the Minister had approved of the. action of the hoard in raising its overdraft over the amount provided for in the Act. Mr Johnson replied that tho Minister had not validated Ihe hoard’s action, but had the hoard not borrowed to the extent it did the only alternative would have been to close the hospital. The section of the Act in question was especially stringent and in his opinion should be amended. "Every hospital hoard in Ihe conntry is in I lie same position," remarked Mr Ryburn. "They hove nil had lo borrow over I heir powers to carry on."

The matter was left in the hands of the secretary
