SIMPLE DRY-CLEANING
METHODS WORTH A TRIAL. Pale-hued repps and face cloths, If 'only soiled on the surface, may be cleaned with a fig dust. Brush the garment, lay it on a sheet, and sprinkle it all over with fig dust, rubbing in the cleanser with the lingers. Wrap the sheet .-/round the garment and let it remain undisturbed for several hours, afterwards brushing out the tig dust. Fig dust may be bought cheaply at any corn chandler’s shop.
To dry-clean a tweed costume,, spread it on a table, bi'iisty it well, and apply a mixture of breadcrumbs and a nenny-worlh of magnesia, with a small brush or piece of flannel. Place a damp cloth over the material, press with a warm iron, and the costume will come up like new. Cream serge Can he dry-cleaned thus: Free the garment from dust, then put it in a hand-box lined with two sheets of tissue-paper, covered with a generous supply of powdered fuller’s earth. Add a thin layer of the powder on top, cover with more tissue paper, close the box firmly, and put it away for a week. At the end of that time, give the garment a good shake, and it will look quite clean and fresh.
When mud stains cannot he removed when still fresh, they should he treated later with a solution of carbonate of soda and water, applied with a piece of flannel. Rub the stained pieces until every trace of mud lias disappeared. To remove, a shiny surface from dark material, use a coffee lotion. After having made coffee-, pour hot water over the remaining grounds, dip a piece of cloth in Hie liquid, and nib the shiny parts of Hie dress.
