CHRISTMAS IN LONDON
BELATED SPENDING. CROWDS THRONG THE SHOPS. United Press .\ssn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright LONDON, Dec. 23. A sudden outburst of Christmas spending has belatedly begun in London, and stores and shops are crowded all day. Semi-official reports indicate that seasonable purchases began this year two or three weeks later than usual. The season’s extra note issue to last week totalled £9,0001,000, compared with £21,000,000 for the corresponding period of 1930. The response to the appeal for early payment of income tax promises to be good.
