FLAX-STRIPPER

MACHINE FROM ENGLAND. EXPERIMENTAL USE. Special experiments with a new flax stripper which arrived in Wellington bv Iho Rangitane will be carried out by Hie Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. In order to assemble and superintend the working of the machine, Mr C. M. Plane, technical engineer for Richard Garret and Sons, Ltd., Leislon. England, arrived also by Hie ship, and was met by Dr. E. Marsden, secretary of Ihe department, and by Mr W. J. Wallis, of Wellington, who is represenlalive for Hie English firm. The Max stripper is of Hie type which was seen in action in England by Ihe Prime Minister. It is a modiflealinn of the one used in Kenya Colony and the West Indies for sisal. II was specially pul together for experimental purposes, and will probably be used in several places in the* Dominion. including Foxton. Mr Plane will remain in New Zealand for about three months.
