In the Police Court a contractor, Alfred .lames Gillespie, aged 30, was charged with being a rogue and a vagabond In that he imposed upon Tukimoa Johnson hv making a false representation, lie pleaded not guilty. Tukimoa Johnson said accused stayed at her house for two months, but during that period he paid only 111 4s as board. On November 23 accused told witness he had been ■offered a position as a traveller, and that he he required £ls to 'deposit with the company. Witness lent accused £1 a ami received a promissory note in exchange. Sentence of four months’ imprisonment was passed by the Magistrate, Mr F. K. Hunt.
