CRICKET.
USE OF LARGER WICKETS. (By Telegraph.—Pi ess Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. For the remainder of the cricket season in Wellington larger wickets now in use in England county cricket are to be used in the 'Senior championship matches. Arrangements are being made for a set of the larger wickets to be available for each of the four senior matches commencing on Saturday. The larger wickets will not be used in matches in other grades. AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, Wednesday. At last evening’s meeting of the management 'Committee of the Auckland Cricket Association the Otago Association confirmed January 1,2, 4 and 5 as the dates for its Plunkct Shield match with Auckland, to be played at Auckland. It was decided to present Mr F. W. Matthews’ bat for the first century of the season in any grade to F. Murray, of the King’s 'Old Boys’ second grade team. Reporting for the country 'committee, Mr J.‘ 11. Miller stated that he had been in touch with several outside associations with regal’d to the proposed country week in Auckland at Christmas, and he hoped to have some definite information in a fortnight’s time.
OTOROHANGA ASSOCIATION. The first round of the Otorohanga Cricket Association matches commenced on Saturday, when Counti} defeated Honikiwi, and High School defeated Natives. Country put up a total of 9o to 1J by Honikiwi, and School 59 against 08 registered by Natives. SOUTH PIAKO ASSOCIATION. In the match between Wardville and High School, the former on their own ground batted first and ran up 89. T. Sheat 28, R. Sheat 14, and G. Carseldine 10, making double, flguies. Roberts 3 for 6, Scott .3 for. 31, and Mclntyre 2 for 18 took’the wickets. School only totalled 38, of which Whelan made 19 against the bowling of G. Carseldine (5 for 14), J. Sheat (2 for 5), and J. Carseldine (2 lor 6). -
