DEMAND FOR UNITY. MR HENDERSON CRITICISED. INSUFFICIENT “ GINGER.” United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received Sept. 23, 1.40 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 22. Mr A. Henderson met a series of back bench criticisms with a declaration that if he is to remain leader he must insist on a united party. He referred particularly to Monday’s gold standard division, in which other back benchers moved amendments, despite Mr Henderson’s statement that the party would not oppose the bill. Mr Henderson emphatically denied there wore any negotiations with a view to his joining the Government.
Miss Susan Lawrence is his most severe critic among the front benchers, declaring that Mr Henderson has insufficient " ginger.” She contrasted Dr. Addison’s strong opposition to the bill lo Mr Henderson’s accommodating attitude.
