THE AVONDALE MEETING. NOTES FROM TRAINING TRACKS. THE WORK AT TE RAPA. The training work at Te Rapa this morning was completed before the rain came down. Several horses with engagements at the Avondale meeting were on the tracks, but there was very little fast work carried out. The tiestles were out about 27ft. from the rails on the course proper. Cruachan (King) was the first to appear. The King Mark—Straga chestnut was allotted pace work on the plough. He looks in good order for his engagement in the Henderson Handicap on Saturday, in which J. Cammick will be his rider. Whakama (G. Carmont) was sent over two hurdles and worked round to the mile post. The Day Comet — Glideaway mare will have some prospect in the hurdle race on Saturday, as she has been jumping well. Whakama is speedy. Baroscope, with his trainer, A. Tinker, in the saddle, was exercised on the plough. The Weathervane — Tortrix colt is in good order for his engagement in the Avondale Guineas on Monday. Flying Prince (Bentley) was given an easy task this morning. The Flying King—Vanga horse is an acceptor for the Cup and the Henderson Handicap at Avondale on Saturday. It has not been decided yet in which event he will be produced. The three-year-olds Illuminelli (McMahon) and Poloa Lad (A. Gilmer) ran half-a-mile, the final three furlongs secs., Illuminelli being in front at The finish. For Hurdle Racing. Domestic Trouble, who was given paoe work this morning, looks in good order for her hurdle engagement at Avondale on Monday. The Warplane mare, who won a steeplechase at Te Rapa in the winter, has been schooling well over hurdles. A. P. Brady will be her rider at Avondale. King Ford (McGuire) sprinted up the .straight to complete his work this morning. The King Lupin chestnut hit out well and will line up in good order for the Flying Stakes at Avondale. Palmares (McMahon) and L’Allegro (N. Syme) ran three furlongs in 41 secs.. . Paganelli (G. Carmont) was worked over half-a-mile on the course proper, but was not required to give of his best. The Lord Quex —Ringdove gelding will be railed to Avondale on Friday. A. Tinker may ride him on Saturday in the sprint. Illuminagh (Bentley) finished well dear of First Lap (Brady) over six furlongs, the former’s time being 1.23. First Lap is not a good track worker. Jlluminagh will contest, the first division of the Maiden Plate at Avondale, in which F. Bentley will probably be his rider. Cargen (Thomson) and Creina’s King (Carmont) cleared four hurdles In good style, keeping together throughout the mile. Cargen will be a starter over the battens at Avondale on Saturday. Page Boy (Thomson) and Monetize (Brady) went once round, finishing on terms. They ran the last seven furlongs in 1.43. Trowbridge (Carmont) was with them for a mile and was then cased up.

11. Tinker will ride Slump and A, Gilmer will pilot Unoco in the hurdles at Avondale on Saturday. WORK AT ELLERSLIE. LATEST TRAINING NOTES. SOME GOOD PERFORMANCES. \ (By Telegraph—goectal to Times.) AUCKLAND, Tuesday. There was beautiful .weather at Ellerslie this morning before breakfast for training work, and some useful gallops were recorded, the going being good. However, heavy rain, set in about 8 o’clock, and continued for the rest of the morning, with the result that the going was affected and the limes were much slower. No 1 grass track was available for fast work and the steeplechase course was also open. Restaurant impressed in a six furlong gallop with Good Idea, whom she beat by several lengths, the first three taking 38 2-5. and the full distance 1.17 2-5. Over a similar distance Sir Mond finished ahead of Full Measure, after running the first three furlongs in 3S 1- and the completed task in 1.17 4-5. Sir Mond worked well, but Full Measure was not kicked out at the finish. Gay Cockade, looking well, was sent over a round with Sir Yal to assist him over the last half-mile. He ran the distance in 1.54 2-5, the final six furlongs taking 1.20, and the last half-mile in 545. Manawhenua was a shade in front of Tctrachate and Catoma over six furlongs. The first three took. 38 2- and the full distance 1.18 3-5. The Avondale Cup candidate, Tanel'iri, was worked over a round in 2.1, the final six furlongs taking 1.24, running .on strongly at the finish. At Taklnlnl. The weather was fine before breakfast at Takinini, but heavy rain fell during the interval and made the going holding. All work was done on Hie middle grass track, with the poles 30ft. out from the rails. Bronze Eagle worked freely over six furlongs, running the first three in 42 seconds and completing the task in 1.24. There was little between Eaglet and Refresher at the end of five furlongs in i.G 3-5, tiie last half-mile taking 53 3-ss. At Avondale. There was little doing at Avondale, and the majority of the gallops look place on the inside grass, which was very fast, before breakfast, but heavy rain then set in and the going became slower. Autumn Sun and Jalldy Karo ran six furlongs in i.lfi 2-5. They were on terms at the finish. Maori Boy, Hunting Day, and Wakapara ran five furiongs in 1.5, finishing ns named. There was not much between the first-named pair.
