DEBATING ACTIVITIES.

BT. MARY’S CLUB. THE QUESTION OF DISARMAMENT The members of St. Mary’s Debating Club held their concluding debate last evening, when it was debated "That Disarmament is the Best Means of Preserving World Peace.” In moving the motion, Mr C. E. Cuming spoke of the horrors that the next war would bring. The chemical ■warfare that was being Introduced meant that future wars would bring wholesale destruction and unspeakable misery. Mr W. Jordan, in leading the negative, pointed out that worldwide disarmament was impracticable. The only way the nations could preserve peace effectively would be by maintaining armed forces. The speaker advanced several arguments in favour of nations increasing their armaments. The two speakers were supported in their views by Messrs E. 'Grace and J. Roach. After a general discussion the motion was carried by a substantial majority.
