HAMILTON’S SUCCESS. DEFEAT OF NGARUAWAHIA. A BRIGHT, EVEN GAME. In a bright and even game Hamilton defeated Ngaruawahia at Rugby League at Hineinoa Park on Saturday by 8 points to 5. 'The teams were— Hamilton—3. Muir, Astle, Robinson, Tristram, Welch, Hynes, Crewther, Stubbings, O’Halloran, Robinson. Johnston, Paget and Phillips. Ngaruawahia—T. Brown, W.- Hill, N. Kelly, W. Abbot, F. Abbot, W. Tittleton, S. Crewther, A. Payne, 11. Mason, A. Menzies, D. Dare, N. Williams and J. Leard.

From the kick-off the ball went n the Ngaruawahia forwards, who started a bright dribbling rush towards the line. Good line kicking saw the home team take the play down to the visitors’ twenty-live. Scrambling play followed on Ngaruawahia’s linp, Hamilton being within an ace of scoring on two or three occasions. The visitors’ rearguard, however, stemmed the attacks with good clearing kicks. Ngaruawahia worked out of dangerous territory with a crisp passing movement, but a long kick by Crewther ■placed his team in a scoring position. From a scrum on Hamilton’s twentyfive Ngaruawahia heeled, their backs setting out on a fast passing bout for the line. All the visiting backs handled, the ball eventually coming to Dare, who topped off the movement with a try between the posts. Crewther converted. The next bright movement was provided by Hamilton's winger, Tristram. Receiving the ball at half way, he made a strong so'.o run down the line, kicking infield when he came to the full back. In a race for the ball he beat the visiting custodian, scoring a nice try wide out. Muir missed from a difficult angle. The Second Spell. On the resumption play hovered In mid-field for a considerable period. From a scrum Ngaruawahia heeled, Crewther sending the ball out to F. Abbot, to Tittleton, to V. During loose play near the visitors’ line Crewther sent the ball to Welch, who, with a tricky run, evaded several of the opposition, scoring between the posts. Robinson’s pass to Tristram went astray, the bail going into touch. M. Kelly relieved the pressure for the visitors with a strong run.
