THE EARTHQUAKE AREA.

APPLICATIONS FOR ASSISTANCE. LOANS TO BE GRANTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NAPIER, Saturday. The decisions reached re applications for financial assistance in the earthquake areas were communicated io over 20 claimants. It appears that no grants of free money are to be paid. Applicants have been granted loans carrying interest at per cent., re-payment to be spread over periods ranging between 20 and 30 years, according to the state of the applicant's affairs. In every case there is a period of from three to live years immediately after the granting of assistance during which no interest will be charged. The offers have created a most favourable impression in Napier.
