YOUNG MAN KILLED.
FATALITY AT PUTARURU. CAR GOES OVER BANK. FALL OF 60 FEET. (Special to Times.' PUTARURU, Monday. A tragic motor car fatality resulting In the dealh of a well known young Putaruru resident, occurred at about 1.30 on Sunday morning. The young man who was killed was Mr Leslie Truss, aged 20 years, and two other Putaruru residents, Richard Vosper, 22 years and Cyril Scholz, 19 years, who were also In the car received a severe shaking. The three young men were returning from Rotorua, the deceased, Leslie Truss, driving and the accident occurred just after the party had passed the Mamaku Bush, the car leaving the road and somersaulting over a bank finally coming to rest about 60 feet below the road. It appears that there was a heavy fog at the time, the car having been stopped two or three times previously and the occupants getting out to make sure of their way. From the position of the accident it Is surmised that the driver did not see a sharp turn but went straight ahead over a filling. It was fifteen minutes before Scholx and Vosper could extricate themselves and they Immediately turned to help their companion who was pinned under the wreck. They only desisted from their efforts when Truss expired. The scene of the fatality Is in a district that is scarcely populated and it was 5 a.m. before Scholz and Vosper arrived at a farmer's house and telephoned to Putaruru. Constable Murphy proceeded to the scene and had the body brought back to Putaruru. Deceased was born in the district and had been employed In the Farmers' Trading Company for the past five years. He was a capable musician and conducted a Putaruru orchestra. The other two occupants, Scholz and Vosper escaped with a severe shaking. An Inquest will be held this afternoon.
