THE TOKOROA FACTORY. RECORD PRODUCTION SEASON. The quantity of cheese manufactured in the past season by the Tokofa Co-operative Dairy Company’ Ltd., j is again In excess of any previous season, being six tons in advance of the | factory’s previous record of 337 tons ! for 1929-30. The quality of the cheese was again maintained. The quantity of export cheese sent to cool stores was 4479 crates. Of these only nine crates were graded “ seconds,’’ the balance being “ finest ” or “firsts.” The bulk of export cheese was forwarded on consignment, and the low advance payments which have been ruling have unfortunately had to be reflected in progress payments to suppliers,. The average to date over the whole season is 7.88 d. However, with returns recently to hand covering the later shipments, and the fact that 60 tons on hand and afloat at 30th June has since been sold at 6 l-8d f.0.b.. the position has considerably improved, and it is anticipated that when actual realisation figures ane complete the directors will be able to make further payments in respect of butter-fat supplied in September to June, which will be equivalent to approximately 2jd over the whole season and will bring the total payments for the season up to 10 l-Bd. where operations were begun last September, more than 1000 tons of butter have been manufactured to date. A metalled road giving access to the factory has been extended round the factory. thus avoiding the necessity for vehicles turning when leaving the delivery stage or the can-loading stage. The erection of a building for box making Is in hand on a site adjoining tile factory. A recent addition to the butter-making plant has been the Installation of another glass-lined vat for holding cream prior to Its delivery t< lhe churns.
