Baton charges by 30 policemen dispersed a crowd of about 1000 unemployed, who assembled at a Fitzroy house and threatened to cause trouble over the eviction of a family for nonpayment of rent. The unemployed tore pickets from fences, and were about to attack a police sergeant and the bailiff, when police cars with reinforcements arrived, and these dispersed the gathering.
