ARMED BANDITS.
ANOTHER HOLD-UP. THREATENED WITH REVOLVER. w GARAGE PROPRIETOR ROBBED. WELLINGTON, Monday. Mr William Alexander Pirle, aged 50, who conducts a service station in a small bay on the Petone side of Day's By, after locking up this evening had occasion to open the front door to throw out some rubbish.
While he was doing so, a man, about sft. Ilin, in height, stepped from the shadows and thrust his foot in the doorway. Jabbing the point of a revolver into Mr Pirie, the man ordered him to put up his hands. The garage proprietor obeyed and another man, also holding a revolver, stepped forward. "Where Is the money’" they asked. “Is that necessary?" began Mr Pirle, but the taller of his captors said curtly, "We are desperate." He then repeated his command and Mr Pirle allowed the men to take the monev from the garage till, amounting to £5 18s 6d. Then, working coolly and methodically, the men searched and found the telephone wires, which they cut. Mr Pirle was ordered to sit down and not to move for 10 minutes and the men departed after repeating the warning against giving the alarm before the prescribed time had elapsed.
Mr Pirie waited for 10 minutes and -Unen called for help. His call was heard by a neighbour and residents drove to the nearest telephone and gave the alarm.
