A KING GOES SHOPPING.
DETHRONED ALFONSO IN LONDON. A dark, slight figure, walking rapidly through the sumptuous men's wear departments in a Brompton Road store, excited little comment from shoppers or assistants the other day—states an English exchange. Fewpeople realised that it was King Alfonso, who was paying a private visit to London as the guest of Lord and Lady Mountbatten at Brook House. King Alfonso always prefers to buy clothes in London, and on this occasion had commissions to fulfil for Queen Ena and his two daughters. The two Infantas enjoy to the full the wonderful rides through the Forest of Fontainebleau, which were planned out hundreds of years ago when the young Kings of France learned to ride and to hunt. Nothing has been altered or spoiled, and there are jumps in the open spaces put up by the oavalary regiments at Avon. One of the picturesque features of the Palace nowadays Is the American Conservatoire, which occupies a whole wing during the summer, and where men and girls in the Quartier Latin costume are to be seen daily.
