OPERATIONS FOR THE YEAR. The circulation of the Scripture, 'n 1930 by the British and Foreign Bible Society has surpassed all Its previous records, excepting only that of 1929. The total available income was £403. 527, the total expenditure 1406,365. and the deficiency on the year's working £B3B. Fourteen new versions were added during the year to the total of 644 languages on the society's list. Ten of these 14 were African languages, and one, a translation of the Gospel of Mark into the Nuba language, was the work of a New Zealander, Dr. Phoebe MacDlarmi.t, of the Sudan United Mission. A considerable decrease occurred In the Issue of English versions, of which 83,200 fewer copies were soli at home, and 58,300 fewer were sent abroad. But the volumes in English numbered 1,659,000, which Is double the number of ten years ago. The sale of versions in China totalled 4,694,000. In Europe the circulation increased by over 100,000 to 1,747.000. lii Russia, however, the door slhl remains barred to the Bible. By order of the Government Biblical Instruction Is now to bo given In the schools I of Italy. ( The staff of the society's colporteurs numbers over 90u. The total Bibles, Testaments ami portions of Scripture Issued during the vear was 11,888,226.
