MR CHURCHILL AND THE DOLE .
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I notice a long article by Mr Winston Churchill In your last Saturday’s supplement, in condemnation ot the dole in England. I wonder if Mr Churchill could Induce his cousin, the Duke of Marlborough, to forego his dole of £5OOO a year which has been paid to the Churchill family for about two centuries and a-quarter. I presume some of those drawing the dole wquld be descendants of some of the common soldiers who fought with the original Duke at Blenheim. Mr Churchill is a grandson of the sixth Duke of Marlborough, so I presume is a first cousin of the present Duke. It the present Duke gave up his dole, it would go a long way towards helping to feed 100 families. Perhaps Mr Churchill, being so prominent and having such a horror of the dole might Influence his cousin to part with i.'is dole.—l am, etc., W. B. MoMANUS. Frankton, August 10, 1931.
