JUNIOR REFORM LEAGUE
THE HAMILTON BRANCH.
SECOND ANNUAL MEETING. The second annual meeting of the Hamilton Branch of the Junior Reform League was held last evening, Mr J. R. Fitz-Gerald presiding over a good attendance. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted as read. The annual report stated:—The present membership of the League stands al 23 and there were seven resignations during the year. We were extremely fortunate at the outset in having Mr C. F. Sherley to act as our president for the 1930 half of the Season but in April of this year he was unfortunately compelled to resign from office on account of health reasons. It was due Io Mr Sherley's keenness that the League was successtully inaugurated and your committee wishes to place on record its warm appreciation of his services. Mr G. Roberts filled the vacancy and our thanks are due to him for his help. Consequent on his transfer to Auckland he too was compelled to resign and we are now without a president. It was considered that the best way to inaugurate the League would be to hold a dance and thereat to Invite membership for the League. From the social point of view the dance was an outstanding success. Meetings During the Year. During the year the League met on eight occasions and at each of the meetings quite a fair attendance was recorded. The meetings consisted of debates, addresses, a series of impromptu speeches and a mock borougu council election. During the 1930 part of the season our meetings were held at the Toorak Chambers. This enabled us to hold a short dance after each meeting and in the opinion of your committee this was to a great extent the means qt drawing in to the membership of the League those who would not otherwise be attracted by the undoubted facilities for self improvement which the League offers. It is regretted that this year we were unable to obtain the use of the Toorak Chambers and those meetings which have not been held in the private residences of Reform Party supporters have had to be held in the Y.M.C.A. buildings. Election of Officers.
The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr J. A. Young. M.P.; president, to be elected by the executive committee; vice-presidents. Messrs A. M. Bisley, V. Towers, E. Muir, D. Hebenton, T. B. A vote of thanks to the retiring officers was carried with acclamation. It was decided to meet every third Monday evening for the ensuing year. The subscription for the ensuing year will be 2s 6d.
