BULK PURCHASE.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I notice in your paper a speech by Mr Lee Martin on "Bulk Purchasing." At the last election one of the parties dangled a £70,900,000 proposal before the electors, 1 which turned out a myth. Now for this election the Labour Party seem to be dangling "Bulk Purchase," which will turn out to be a “will-o-the-wisp." The Labour Government in Britain do not uphold preference to the Dominion, and if they give any details of their “Bulk Purchase" scheme it will be found they will buy in the cheapest market, whether it is Argentine or Russia. When we find a responsible Minister of the Labour Cabinet in the Old Country (Mr Herbert Morrison), stating that “the objective of his party was the complete extinction of private enterprise and trading” it will make farmers beware of any scheme propounded by the Labour Party. The statement made by one of the leaders of the dairy industry in New Zealand when discussing this bulk purchase scheme is worth considering—“ The price would have to be fixed by somebody. If this matter was left; to the present British Labour Government, the price would probably be in favour of the consumer and against the New Zealand producer.”—l am, etc., FARMER.
