FIND OF GOLD.
DISCOVERY AT THAMES. '' ; , -/ ’’ ■ s' LUCKY PARTY OF MAORIS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) THAMES, Thursday. An encouraging find of gold was made-by a party of Maoris at Tapu yesterday. The party had been working. about the Black Swan claim, trying to follow a two-foot leader, but lost It. They consulted an experienced miner, and made a new start some distance uphill above the previous workings. "They found the cap of the reef, and secured a sugar sackful of good stone, which returned half an ounce to the dish. Later a drive was made, locating a reef about four feet wide showing signs of Junctioning with Fluke reef, which yielded a good return in the early nineties. There appears every likelihood of the Maoris striking something good. A syndicate was hurriedly formed and an offer was made to the Maoris, but it was refused. Specimens of stone seen in Thames this morning were very promising. Miners are much impressed with the possibilities.
