STORY OF A SONG
“ THE FLORAL DANCE.” HOW IT WAS WRITTEN. Peter Dawson, the famous baritone, who will appear in Hamilton on August 5, was one of the earliest singers for the gramophone, and probably liis most popular recording is that of "The Floral Dance.” It is not commonly known that tills delightful song perpetuates an incident which actually happened lo its author and composer, Katie Moss. This is tiie story in Peter Dawson’s own words: "One summer evening David Brazol, liie singer, was standing alone in the High Street of Helston, Cornwall, where the famous dance lakes place every year, and being parlnerless lie felt so lonely standing there that lfc could only sland and stare, Then lo bis joy ho saw suddenly, hastening down the lane, a figure lie knew, and with no more ado lie appropriated Katie Moss for the dance, ami in this fashion the famous ‘Floral Dance’ was born."
